A tree blasted
Greetings unto the habitues of the Merry Rose! As a newcomer
to these shores (excuse me, I mean beaches) I have a question
about some of the heraldry in this fair Kingdom.
I happened to be looking at the on-line armorial the other
day when two pieces of armory caught my eye:
Myrkewoode, Barony of
Ermine, a tree blasted and a chief wavy sable.
Lochmere, Barony of
Ermine, a tree blasted and eradicated and a chief wavy
within a bordure sable.
Now, I think I know what these would look like; "blasted" means
all the leaves are gone, and "eradicated" means the roots are
showing, and I imagine all the little black ermine-tails would
look a little like more trees in the distance, so it would seem
to be a hilly, woody, wintry, nighty, landscape.
My questions are two:
How is it that two separate Baronies (possibly in two separate
Kingdoms) have such badges or devices that are so similar to one
another?
What do these symbols signify, and who bears them?
