An Alairian Song

Greetings, Merry Thorns!

If my cousin Davey of Deerforth were here, a pleasant baritone would
offer this rendition. Instead, my unsteady tenor will have to suffice,
as I offer this sample of the music of Alairia. ( As the tune is
original, I can only give you an idea of it, but come to the Cruel Boar
on Father's Day and you'll hear the real thing.)

Some background. 1) We broke off from another local group, called
Cambria, when their politics got mean. 2) We had a massive 6 hour
post-revel after one event, whereat a large amount of O'Doul's non-alcoholic beer was consumed. 3) Johann Pearinbloom of the Barony of Glenwolf
brews excellent ale. He joined us last year.

(If you come to a tavern, ask about Saint Talon of the Keg. He's not in
the song, but he inspired it.)

Verse--slowly, almost mournfully...

I left my home in Cambria to sail across the sea
Left kith and kin to start a new life here
And I would find Alairia a land beyond compare,
If I could only find some decent beer!

Chorus--Lively, rowdy even:

'Cause you can't get drunk on Alairian Beer
I don't know why--God knows I try
You can't get drunk on Alairian Beer
But otherwise it suits me here.

We took it to the Brewer's Guild to see what they could do.
We spoke right to the master brewer here,
A likely lad named Mick O'Doul who says he does his best,
But he just cannot brew a potent beer.

Chorus

The ladies of Alairia are treasures to behold
Each one a lass a man could well hold dear...
The ladies of Alairia, they think the world of me,
But only when they drink imported beer!

Modified Chorus:
'Cause I can't get 'em drunk on Alairian Beer
I don't know why--God knows I try
I can't get 'em drunk on Alairian Beer
But otherwise it suits me here.

I'll not go back to Cambria, not for a purse of gold
They've laid a price on parts that I hold dear (men cross legs)
But I would brave the danger friend, and go to Cambria
If I could bring us back some decent beer!

Chorus

Reprise:

I left my home in Cambria to sail across the sea
Left kith and kin to start a new life here
And Now I find Alairia a land beyond compare,
'Cause I know where they keep the Glenwolf Beer!

Final Chorus:

So we'll all get drunk on Alairian Beer
And lift a stein 'til we feel fine
We'll all get drunk on Alairian Beer
And thank God he sent Johann here!

Humbly offered, while nimbly ducking crockery,

Will O'Bryan
