It is my understanding that if a demo is announced in the Acorn, following
all the other rules of official event announcements, it IS an official event
and IS covered. In fact, I know it's covered in this way because the
WONDERFULLY attended Camelot Faire Demo that Caer Mear did last year was
covered by our insurance - I had to get proof of insurance for the park
owner. The King could have given awards if he'd been there and wanted to -
authorizations WERE done.
(And thanks to all the Atlantians (and one An Tirian) who attended and made
it such a big success!)
Demos that are not announced in the Acorn and do not meet the requirements
of an official event may not covered by our insurance.
OTOH, in the BoD Minutes a while ago was some business about reimbursing a
school for damage done at (I think) a fight practice. So maybe we ARE
covered for events that are not in the kingdom newsletters (though in some
other kingdoms, regular fight practice days and times ARE listed in the
newsletters).
HOWEVER - for the definative word on whether the SCA is covered at Your
Local Elementary School if the lanyard breaks and a kid gets hurt, contact
your local seneshal(e). If s/he doesn't know, contact the Kingdom seneshale.
If she doesn't know, contact John Bearkiller, the new society seneschal.
And if HE doesn't know, contact E.F. Morril (Sir Edward Zifran of Gendy,
Viscount), the insurance ombudsman on the Board of Directors. If he doesn't
know we're in trouble. ;)
