  It seems to me that much of our actual experience with homage, fealty,
  alliances, and other relationships within the SCA can be categorized thus:
  "The SCA is a game, but the relationships are real."

That is why, for one thing, I don't choose to participate in SCA feudal
relationships without some kind of pre-existing friendship... because I very
much desire the two to slop over into one another.

Others may feel differently, of course.
