This is not what I said. I said that to force an escort is
wrong, not that one should not be offered. There should be someone or
several someones who are "designated escorts" who are available to escort
a lady into court if she should be lacking and wanting one. However, if
she doesn't want one, the escort should quietly get out of the way.

I've never been to an event where I didn't know anyone and even
if I had, in the SCA it never takes long to make friends. This being the
case, a person could easily arrange to have someone they know escort them
in, whether they came along or were met at the event. It doesn't take
long to turn to the person next to you and say "M'lord would you do me
the favor of escorting me into court?" My suggestion is perfectly
legitimate and feasible. You don't have to constantly use the same
person as an escort.
