Event flyer for Winter Solstice

Dear Denizens of the Merry Rose:

I bid you good tidings for this merry time of year, and hope to entice
you to attend Sacred Stone's Winter Solstice event coming up December
28th.  Below is a copy of the event flyer that appeared in this month's
Acorn with the addition of descriptions of the prizes to be awarded and
motel reservation information.  I bid you ado and hope that you all have
a safe and happy Christmas.

The Feast of the Winter Solstice

Site: The beautiful Canton of Baelfire Dunn is once again the location
for Sacred Stone's Winter Solstice event being hosted by the Guardians
of the Sacred Stone.  The site, Longview Recreational Center in Hickory,
NC, opens at 9am and closes at 10pm.  The site is dry.

A&S Competition: There will be an A&S display as well as an A&S
competition with a Twelve Days of Christmas theme.  Entries should be
something worthy of a period gift that could have been given during the
twelve days of Christmas using a motif from the song of the same name.
For example, a period mug with an engraved picture of 5 rings etc.
Documentation is not required, but if provided, the entry will get more
A&S points.


Activities:  Her Excellency, Baroness Rachel de Johnstone, will be
holding a Baronial Curia during the day.  Other activities include two
gaming tournaments(Gluckshaus and King's Table), dance classes, musical
chairs, and children's activities including a brass rubbing/ ink
stamping table and a cookie decorating table throughout the day.  For
the fighting aficionados we will have a double elimination  tourney and
a rapier tourney. Prizes for the event are as follows:A&S competition
prize is a low pile cotton batting quilted tablecloth / wallhanging
/coverlet or whatever you prefer to do with it.  It is approximately
58X75 inches in size and is reversible with festive squares making up
the top side and one whole piece making up the back side.  The prizes
for the 2 gaming tournaments will be leather game boards with
semi-precious stones as playing pieces or dice in a material carrying
bag.  The heavy and rapier tourney prizes are large wooden bowls
decorated by  a woodburning tool with holly leaves and a picture of a
partridge in a pear tree then sealed with a food safe finish.


Cost:  $10.00 on board, $5.00 off  board.  Children 6-12 are half price.
 Children 5 and under are guests of the Barony.  Feast seating is
limited to 100 people.

(Derrick Solomon (704)399-1200 call before 10pm) who has graciously
agreed to provide us with a royal feast.

Reservations:  All reservations should be sent to the Autocrat: (Lady

NC 28208).  For questions regarding the event call (704)394-3302 (before

to: The Barony of Sacred Stone/S.C.A., Inc.

Directions:  Take your best route to I-40 in NC west of Statesville.
Take Exit 123 off of I-40 onto Highway 321 North.  At the third
stoplight, turn left onto 2nd Street.  Proceed approximately 1.5 miles.
The site is clearly visible on the left.

Accomodations:  I've been told that there are various hotels in the
Hickory area, but that the one closest to the event site is on highway
321. It is the Quality Inn Comfort Suite and the phone number to call
for reservations is (800)228-5150.
