Promissory scroll
Poster: Corun MacAnndra <corun@access.digex.net>
Greetings unto the patrons of the Merry Rose,
Recently I had occasion to discuss with Her Majesty Arielle the making up of
promissory scrolls for Their Majesty's Book of Scrolls. She did then hand to
me several blank promissories fro various awards that I might replicate them
and have our newly formed Scriptorum begin filling in the blanks and
colouring them. Among these scrolls was a promissory blank for the White
Scarf of the Academe d'Espee. It appears to be hand rendered. Her Majesty
mentioned that the paper on which it was done was too large for the scroll
book, the maximum size being 8.5x11 inches. I offered to take this scroll
and adjust it to fit within this size. The scroll has on it a large bird in
the shape of the letter L, with beneath it a rapier, and before it s floral
motif. The scroll also has upon it a blank circle which Her Majesty and I
could only assume was meant for the arms of the Academe d'Espee.
To wit, I have scanned the original image into two parts, the main body of
the scroll, and the words Rex and Regina that were at the bottom of the
scroll but left justified. Artisically I felt that it should be centered,
and so scanned these two words in separately that I could center them in the
finished piece. I have also drawn up the badge of the Academe and added this
to the scroll where the blank circle sits.
My dilema is this; I am loathe to send this to Her Majesty for the simple
reason that I would not feel right in making these alterations public
without the permission of the original creator of this scroll. This is
someone else's handiwork afterall, and I am but making some simple
alterations. Unfortunately neither I nor Lord Alan Gravesend, nor Lady
Isobel know who this person is. If anyone knows the creator of this
promissory, I would very much like to get in contact with them that I may
show them what I have done and thereby gain their approval and permission to
release this to Her Majesty.
For those who wish to see the colour image of the arms of the Academe
d'Espee, you can view it at my website;
