[Banter] Literary reference, Huck Finn

[WARNING: The following is a humorous continuation of the previous
thread. Those of you without a sense of humor may skip the message.]
since somebody asked... and somebody else tried to clarify & didn't
get the whole story:
[*HARUMPH* assumes professorial air]

> how this works, remember the scene in ... was it Tom Sawyer or Huck
Finn?
> . when a boy dressed as a girl was "caught out" by how he moved when

I think it was Huck and he was trying to thread a needle.
[There were basically three things that the lady did to Huck to draw
him out, as it were: [whether she was deliberately trying to draw him
out or not, I don't remember; but it would seem to be the case.]
1. She made him try to thread a needle, and he threaded it by holding
the thread still and pushing the needle at it, instead of the other
way around, like a girl "would have done it."
2. She threw him a lump of lead to throw at mice, and he caught it in
the lap of his dress by either opening his legs outward to catch the
lead, or by closing his legs to let the skirt do the work, can't
remember which. Whichever, it wasn't "the way a girl would do it."
3. She told him to throw the lead at a rat, and he did so, which gave
him away for sure, since he overhanded it instead of forearming it,
"the way a girl would."
There. Aren't you glad you asked? Now you can sleep well tonight
knowing that you've contributed to the education of a bunch of people.
You there, in the back, I hope you're not sleeping...there'll be a
quiz later.
Hell, if it'd been me, I'd have just asked him if he was lost or
not...as we all know, males are incapable of admitting this, whereas
females are perfectly capable of stopping and asking directions...
Tongue firmly in cheek,
[but the Huck Finn info is accurate as far as it goes]
