(?) Not exactly. It's the Latin for "Lady." Most of the lady
knights, I am told, will take it in good stride if one refers to
them as "Sir <lady's name>." The Brits refer to the female
members of their knightly orders as Dames, but I was taught that
you don't refer to nice ladies as dames. Dem udder goils, now,
dat's anudder story.
