Baronial Birthday and Investiture
5-7 September AS xxxij (CE 1997)

The Barony of Marinus invite all to join them at their tenth Baronial
Birthday, to celebrate the Investiture of their new Baron and Baroness (or
will it just be Baron?).

Didn't go to Pennsic? Went to Pennsic, but didn't get to kill enough
people? Join the Barony's fighters on the field in a point tournament in
which the new Baronial Champion will be chosen. And should there be enough
interest, those fighters who need not hurry home may join in a
double-elimination tournament which will take place on Sunday morning.

For those who do not fight, or wish a break from it, Saturday's
activities will also include a games tournament and the traditional
Eisteddfod. Who will be Marinus' new Gamesmaster and Titled Bard? And
artisans may bring samples of their work for the A&S display, to be hosted
by the Crefftwr of Marinus.

A day board will be open to all. In the evening, there will be a feast
of two courses, prepared by Lord Christian Broussard. After the feast,
there will also, of course, be dancing in the hall (musicians are most
welcome!), and a bardic circle without.

The rate schedule is as follows:

                        Off Board On Board
Day Trip Camping Day Trip Camping
            Adult $ 8.00 $10.00 $13.00 $15.00

Children six to twelve will be half price; those five and under will be
guests of the Barony. On-board reservations postmarked 26 Aug or later add
$3.00 per person. (This late fee will be waived for those who have an
active-duty military ID.) Remember - the only confirmed reservation is a
paid reservation!

Send reservations and inquiries to the steward of the hall, Laird
Alasdair mac Iain of Elderslie (James Gilly, 3702 Newport Ave, Norfolk VA
23508; phone 757 624-9563 before 9:30 pm). Please include both SCAdian and
mundane names, and SCA membership numbers, for all persons attending,
including children. Make cheques payable to Barony of Marinus/SCA Inc.
Questions or concerns regarding the feast may be addressed to the head cook,
Lord Christian Broussard (Christopher Smith, 844 Hopwood Lane, Virginia
Beach VA 23455; phone 757 490-1732 before 10 pm). For a copy of the menu
and ingredient list, send an SASE to the head cook.

Merchants are welcome; contact the steward for further information.

The site of this camping event will be Pipsico Boy Scout Reservation,
Surry VA (no street adddress) - the same site as last year's event. The
site opens at 5:00 pm Friday, and closes at 2:00 pm Sunday. This is a DRY
site (NO alcohol permitted on site), and NO PETS are allowed on site.

     DIRECTIONS:
From Marinus or Tir-y-Don, contact your seneschal or the steward
of the hall for directions.
From Richmond or the North or West, make your best route to I-295
southeast of Richmond. Take exit 15 (Route 10) through Hopewell to Spring
Grove, and follow from ** below.
From the South, make your best way to I-95. Take exit 31 (Route
40) and go east. In Spring Grove, turn right onto Route 10. ** Bear left
