Marinus Baronial Birthday XI, Sept 25-27th, 1998

	The Barony of Marinus invites all to join in a day of
celebration.  The camping event will take place at Davis Lakes
Campground, 200 Byrd St., Suffolk, VA  23434.  The site will open at 5
p.m. Fri. and close at noon on Sun.  The site is handicapped accessible
and discretely wet, no original containers.
	The day's activities will included a Heavy Weapons Tourney
(designed to give you all the fighting you want), A Rapier Tourney, and
an Archery Tourney (which will include a stationary ring shoot and a
William Tell shoot).  The Heavy Weapons and Rapier Tournaments will
choose the Baron's and Baroness' Champions.  The List will open at 11:00
a.m. and fighting will begin at 12:30 p.m.  For the Art & Sciences minded
there will be three competitions.  The first A&S competition will choose
the Baronial Creftwyr, entrants should display a body of work, with at
least one item completed within the last year.  (For more information

competition will choose the Titled Bard of Marinus, entrants will be
required to complete a piece using a supplied list of words and should
come prepared with a story or song to present.  (For more information

Gaming Tourney including, Alquerque, Byzantine Chess and Noddy, will
determine the new Baronial Gamemaster.  (For more information contact

recreation, try shopping (Merchants are welcome, please contact the
autocrat.), or visit Rabah's Karavan, which will be set up on the side of
the list field during the day.  For a complete diversion you can try the
swimming hole (swim suits are required and all site regulation must be
observed).  There will be scheduled children's activities, and the
evening will be topped off with a Bardic Circle.
	The slightly unusual feast will be served under a large wooden
pavilion.  On-Board guests will be served Soup, two Roast Meats and
Bread.  Bring your own side dishes, or if you like, bring extra and we
will provide a buffet table.  Breakfast Saturday will be available for a
small fee; this fund raiser will support the Baronial Library.
	Event costs are:  Adults $12.00 (On-board), $9.00 (Off-Board) if
camping on Friday add $3.00 to the appropriate fee.  Children ages 6-12
$6.00 (On-Board), $4.50 (Off-Board) if camping Friday add $2.00 to the
fee.  Children through age 5 are guests of the Barony.  Make checks
payable to the Barony of Marinus/SCA, Inc.

twentieth century name for each individual.  The only reservation is a
paid reservation.
	Directions:  Take your best route to 58 West towards Suffolk, VA 
Take the exit marked Downtown Suffolk (Bus 58W).  Go six stop lights and
turn left on Main St.  (Rt 13/32S).  Go through downtown 4 miles (street
name will change to Carolina Rd.) turn right on Byrd St. (if you reach
the 7-11 you went too far).  The campground is at the end of Byrd St.
