Dearest sister,
I would disagree... You *are* a "pretty young thing"... <grin> However,
I am glad that you've not had any unpleasant experiences.
I am familiar with what Galen describes. I myself have had occasion in the
past to solicit help from some lord only to be told he had to go do
something else. This, even when my request was something which needed to
be done for the Crown (like setting up thrones)...
And I will never forget the event when Her Excellency, Baroness Rachel,
Baroness Deirdre and I carried a large collection of big pots to our car,
walking right past 10-15 experienced fighters (most of whom were close
friends) who just sat and watched as we struggled to keep from dropping
them...
Now, that is not to say that there aren't lords who help ladies and do so
most graciously (Sir Robert de Rath comes instantly to mind, as does Lord
Jason Kinslayer). But unfortunately, it is not like it was 12 years ago.
And I'm as guilty as anyone else... I could nod and bow to everyone I pass
and do all the courtly things I should. I do try to remember, but
sometimes you get so caught up in what you are doing (or what you need to
be doing) that you forget to lead by example.
(sigh) We *all* need a swift refresher course...
