I would disagree... You *are* a "pretty young thing"... <grin> However,
I am glad that you've not had any unpleasant experiences.
I am familiar with what Galen describes. I myself have had occasion in the
past to solicit help from some lord only to be told he had to go do
something else. This, even when my request was something which needed to
be done for the Crown (like setting up thrones)...>>
I am not particularly of the "pretty young (or itty bitty) thing" sort
myself, but I must say I have never had any such problems that I remember,
even when asking the help of complete strangers. (On the other hand, I am
becoming convinced that those who do know me are afraid of saying not to me
for some reason... <G>)
<snip> Now, that is not to say that there aren't lords who help ladies and do
so
most graciously (Sir Robert de Rath comes instantly to mind, as does Lord
Jason Kinslayer). But unfortunately, it is not like it was 12 years ago. >>
Can't say as I know what the atmosphere was like 12 years ago. On the other
hand, there is such thing as taking it too far. I know of one squire in
anohter kingdom who is so insistent upon holding doors for ladies that he will
slap their hands out of the way if they reach for it first. My mood is such
right now that I will not discuss my thoughts of this, but I don't feel this
particularly espouses courtesy by any means.
Havent we had this discussion before? Seems I am hearing things, ie
accusations that only cute petite young girls get courtesy, specific instances
of courtesy shown, that I have already heard. The suggestion of a class at
university has been made before also, but to date I havent seen anything done
about it or furthered by anyone who wants it.
