New Filksong (fwd)

The synchronicity of the universe is wonderful. One one list, we have
Dafydd ap Gwystl (isn't that pronounced "Taffy ap whatever"?) lamenting the
destruction of his name.

Meanwhile, on the Calontir list, the following song appears about the 3
Rivers Seneschal, Dafydd ap Owen ap.... ap ...

	Tibor

Forwarded message:
At Three Rivers Baronial meeting last night, someone was trying
to get our Daffyd's attention. By saying "Oh Seneschal, oh Seneschal."
This triggered a connection in my mind, and I sang out
"Oh Seneschal, oh Seneschal" (think O, Tannenbaum, or Oh Christmas Tree,
if you prefer). Daffyd looked at me and said, "Now, stop that, Fiondel."

Daffyd, dear milord, you should know not to tell a Calontiri to _stop_
doing something, particularly if it's a potentially good joke.

So, with affection, (and some trepidation, since he and I _are_ in the
same Barony) I humbly offer the following:

                          Ode to Daffyd
                   (Tune: Oh, Christmas Tree)

  Oh, Seneschal, our Seneschal,
  his name is unpronounceable.
  Oh, Seneschal, our Seneschal,
  his name is unpronounceable.
His glories we would all proclaim,
If we could only say his name.
  Oh, Seneschal, our Seneschal
  his name is unpronounceable.

We staunchly try to spread his fame
But it becomes a losing game.
We staunchly try to spread his fame
But it becomes a losing game.
We boldly start with "Daffyd Ap"
Then always end with "I give up!"
We staunchly try to spread his fame
But it becomes a losing game.

  Our bafflement's indicative,
  We can't pronounce a fricative.
  Our bafflement's indicative,
  We can't pronounce a fricative.
Why must his name contain these words?
They're so hard on the vocal cords!
  Our bafflement's indicative,
  We can't pronounce a fricative.

  Sorry, Daffyd, but I couldn't resist. ;-)

(And, yes, Crag, I'm still working on yours. It's a little more
  complicated.)
