I heard King Timothy's speech on the field, and I earnestly believe that that
was His Majesty's concern; that such an undercurrent may exist or develop.
The inscription on the Runestone admonishes, "Let no man strike in anger". If
the battle had developed into a sort of grudge match, even for a minority of
those fighting, the spirit of the War would really have been damaged. As
might the physical and spiritual well-being of some of the fighters. I
believe that one of His Majesty's motivations was a concern for the safety and
good spirits of the fighters on both sides; and I believe he acted
appropriately.
