Helping at events (was courtly behavior)

Ahhh, if only it were just the new folk who needed this reminder.
Sometimes I think we "older folks" could use a refresher. As an
autocrat, it is a constant challenge to find new blood for event staffs.
Yes, you can always rely on the few who are dedicated to serve but it
would be so nice to have more hands to lighten the load.
In that spirit I ask,
When was the last time you volunteered to be in charge of a portion of
an event?
How often do you offer even an hour of service to an event staff
member?
Won't you consider calling the autocrat or head cook of the next event
in your area and volunteering to help?
